FM hopes to increase GDP growth 8.25 pc

Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal expressed hope that the country’s GDP growth will achieve to 8.25 percent next year.
He mentioned that Bangladesh has grown above 7 percent in the last 10 years, in spite of the ongoing global economic recession and this year, 7.88 percent growth has been achieved.
Calling upon Saudi Arabia to invest more in Bangladesh, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal informed this on Monday afternoon at his office in Economic Relations Division of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar when Saudi Arabia Ambassador Abdullah HM Al Mutairi paid a courtesy call.
The Finance Minister said that the geographical position of this country has turned it into a center of regional communication, foreign investment and global outsourcing.
“A number of special economic zones have been set up in the country. The government has set up these industries for sustainable investment in public and private sectors,” he said.
He said, “We have allocated two thousand acres of land in Saudi Arabia for a special economic zone for investors who can use them according to their own needs.”
During the meeting, Saudi Arabia Ambassador Abdullah HM Al Mutairi praised the socio-economic development of Bangladesh.
Saudi Ambassador expressed satisfaction over the unprecedented speed of the friendship relation between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia in recent years.
Abdullah HM Al Mutairi said that a large number of people went to different destinations in Saudi Arabia every year from Bangladesh. “Only 8,300 work visas, 80,000 Omar visas, and 1,28,000 Hajj visas have been given this year,” he said.
“In the coming days, there is a need to continue the bilateral relations and cooperation in expanding relations between the two countries,” the Saudi Ambassador added.
