Commenting a clique is dreaming of overthrowing the government by creating various issues, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said the roots of Sheikh Hasina’s government are deep in the soil of this country and rumors will not be spread.
He said this at an exchange meeting with officials of Roads and Highways Department of Khulna Road Zone, BRTA and BRTC in the capital. Later, Obaidul Quader joined the meeting through video conference from his official residence as part of regular discussions.
Referring to the death of retired Major Sinha Rashed Khan in Cox’s Bazar, the Bridges Minister said some people were trying to provoke the two forces over the tragic incident of former army member Major Rashed. People are aware of everything. The government is very sincere in this regard.
“The legal process has already begun. The investigation committee is working to uncover the incident through proper investigation. Many have been arrested. I urge those concerned at home and abroad to be vigilant to stop spreading rumors and propaganda through social media. Problems will be addressed through immediate action,” he said.
Regarding the coronavirus outbreak in the country, Obaidul Quader said, coronavirus has reappeared in different countries of the world. Although the country has been in a certain trend for a few weeks, the rate of infection is increasing this week with the increase in sample testing.
There is a laxity in adhering to hygiene rules including wearing masks. Again, many are not testing when symptoms appear. Neglect of testing, neglect of hygiene can make our ongoing situation risky at any time, he also said, highlighting the importance of wearing a mask and drew the attention of all concerned to raise awareness.
Regarding the reopening of the court, the minister said that the trial has started in the lower court considering the public interest and the candidates. “I call on the Ministry of Law and the Judiciary to make the wearing of masks compulsory in the courts, including observance of hygiene rules,” he added.
Regarding this year’s Eid journey, Obaidul Quader said, “During the Eid journey, the problem of ferries and travel on other highways except Dhaka-Tangail highway was comfortable. I thank the road engineers including law enforcement agencies, district administration, transport owners and labor organizations.”
I am requesting the transport owners and workers to drive carefully in compliance with the return journey traffic law to prevent road accidents. I also call on law enforcement agencies, especially the highway police, to continue surveillance, he also said.
Addressing the officials of all the agencies under the ministry, the Road Transport Minister said, “We will evaluate the performance as well as the qualifications for promotion and posting.”
The service spirit, best use of government funds and diligence will be assessed in government duties. If you do good deeds you will be rewarded, if you do bad deeds you will be reprimanded and action will be taken according to the rules of service. So I urge everyone to fulfill their responsibilities with sincerity and devotion, added Obaidul Quader.
