The probe body has found evidence of cutting the hair of the students against Farhana Yasmin Baten, a lecturer at the Department of Cultural Heritage and Bangladesh Studies of Rabindra University (RUB) in Shahjadpur of Sirajganj. For this, the committee has recommended immediate action against her.

According to the investigation report, accused teacher Farhana Yasmin cut the hair of 14 students with her own hands at the entrance of the exam of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Bangladesh Studies on September 26.

Meanwhile, RUB has once again become agitated for the “permanent expulsion” of lecturer Farhana. The agitated students have blocked 33 teachers and officials, including the registrar and the head of the investigation committee, demanding permanent expulsion of the accused teacher. They have been under siege since Sunday afternoon.

On September 26, Farhana Yasmin was accused of forcibly cutting the hair of 14 first-year students of the department at RUB. Later, the students started protesting from September 28 by stopping all examinations. On September 30, the university administration suspended Farhana.

The university administration formed a five-member probe body headed by Laila Ferdous, chairman of the Rabindra Studies Department, to investigate the incident. The committee conducted an on-the-spot investigation and submitted a report to the university’s registrar Sohrab Ali on Thursday.

It is to be mentioned that Nazmul Hossain Tuhin (25), a first-year student of the Department of History, Culture and Bangladesh Studies, tried to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills at 8 pm on September 26 over the incident of cutting off the hair of 14 students of the department.

Later, the accused lecturer Farhana Yasmin Baten resigned from the three posts in charge on Tuesday night.

Despite repeated attempts for the comments of the accused teacher Farhana Yasmin about the probe body’s report, she did not receive the phone call.
