Evaly CEO Russell put on one-day remand, chairman Nasrin lands in jail

A court in Dhaka today has granted a one-day remand to Evaly’s Managing Director (MD), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Russell and its chairman Shamima Nasrin (Russell’s wife) in a case filed over embezzlement and fraud filed with Dhanmondi Police Station.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Hasibul Haque’s court granted the remand on Tuesday, however, Evaly chairman, Russell’s wife Shamima Nasrin’s bail petition was rejected and ordered to send her to jail.
On the day, Russell and his wife were brought to court after the three-day remand. Later, Dhanmondi Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Nazmul Huda, investigating officer of the case, appealed to remand them for seven days in the interest of proper investigation of the case.
At that time, the lawyers of the accused requested to cancel the remand and appealed for bail. The state, on the other hand, opposed bail. After hearing, the court passed the order.
While on a three-day remand in the Gulshan police station case, Kamrul Islam Chakdar filed the case against the Russell-Nasrin couple with Dhanmondi police station on September 18 on charges of embezzling money. A total of 20 people were named as accused in the case.
Besides MD Mohammad Russell and Chairman Shamima Nasrin, 15 to 20 unidentified people including Evaly Vice President Akash, Manager Jahedul Islam Hemoy, Senior Accounts Manager Tanvir Alam, Senior Executive Commercial Jawadul Haque Chowdhury, Head of Accounts Selim Reza, Accounts Manager Jubayer Al Mahmoud, Accounts department official Sohel, Akibur Rahman Turja, CEO Russell’s PS Md. Rezwan, the Bike department’s official Sakib Rahman has been made the accused in the case.
According to the case details, the plaintiff mentioned that he had supplied goods worth Tk 35 lakh to Evaly’s Dhanmondi office. But Evaly did not pay his dues. Evaly CEO and chairman have been shown arrest in a case filed by Kamrul Islam.
Although 12 names were mentioned in the case, another 15 to 20 people have been made anonymous accused.
A lawsuit was filed against Russell and his wife Shamima Nasrin on September 16 with the Gulshan police station for embezzling customer money.
Later, RAB raided the house of Evaly MD Russell in the capital’s Mohammadpur on the same day and was arrested after the raid.
