Evaly CEO Russell, Chairman Shamima arrested

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested CEO, managing director (MD) Mohammad Russell and Shamima Nasrin, chairman of e-commerce company Evaly, for various customer allegations.
The couple was arrested in a raid at their Mohammadpur resident in the capital on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, a lawsuit was filed against Evaly chairman Shamima Nasrin and MD, CEO Mohammad Russell for fraud.
An Evaly customer named Md. Arif Baker, a resident of the Purbagram area of Rupganj Upazila in Narayanganj, filed the lawsuit with the Gulshan police station.
Evaly MD Mohammad Russell has been made the number one accused and Chairman Shamima the number two accused in the case. Several other officials of Evaly have been accused in the case by showing “anonymity”.
According to the case details, Arif had ordered goods worth Tk 3,10,597 from Evaly in May and June after seeing attractive offers on its website on May 29. But he did not get the products within the stipulated time. His friends also ordered products from Evaly and paid in advance.
The company was committed to refund the paid amount if the goods were not delivered within seven to 45 working days. As the products were not delivered, Arif called Evaly’s customer care several times and on September 5, for the last time, but no solution was given.
