Anna Linda Eden, journalist, and wife of a Congress MP from Kerala, has landed in a major controversy with her insensitive rape analogy.
In a Facebook post which has now been taken down, Anna Eden, who is a journalist in Kerala, wrote, “Fate is like rape if you can't resist it then try to enjoy it” along with two videos of waterlogging in front of their house in Kochi and that of her husband Hibi Eden having an ice-cream.
Her attempt at poking fun at the flooded situation outside her house turned on its head and now she is receiving a lot of flak over the crass remark.
The post was put up on Facebook on Monday and was taken down on Tuesday morning after widespread criticism on different social media platforms.
Anna Linda Eden later issued an apology in another Facebook post. She said in her apology post that she was not trying to hurt the sentiments of any woman who has faced the trauma of abuse. She also said that she is sorry for the words she chose and issued a public apology.
In 2013, former CBI director Ranjit Sinha made a similar remark and sparked outrage. He had also said, if you can’t prevent rape, you enjoy it.
Ranjit Sinha made the remarks during a meeting in Delhi about the legalization of gambling.
