Australian actor Elizabeth Debicki, best known for her role in 2018’s heist thriller ‘Widows’, will star as the ‘Princess Diana’ in the final season of ‘The Crown’, confirmed the streaming service Netflix announced on Sunday.

Debicki will take the reins from Emma Corrin, who is set to play a young Diana Spencer in the upcoming fourth season, which is rumored to arrive sometime in the coming months, according to the reports of HuffPost.

“Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one,” she said in the Twitter announcement.

Elizabeth Debicki will be the second Australian to play Diana on screen, following Naomi Watts’ outing as the so-called Princess of Hearts in the critically savaged 2013 biopic Diana.

Season four of ‘The Crown’, which stared by Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth, finished shooting in Britain just before the coronavirus shutdown. However, the release date has not yet been announced.

Netflix announced that ‘The Crown’ would end with season five. However, the director Peter Morgan changed his mind and announced that it will be concluded after a sixth season, as originally intended.

Debicki became a blockbuster through Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’ in 2013 and also appeared in the movies such as ‘Macbeth’, ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’, ‘Everest’, ‘The Night Manager’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’, etc.
