EC rejected the demand for Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) polls delay.  Election Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam Told reporters after a meeting with Chattogram election officials on Friday afternoon.

Earlier, after submitting the nomination papers on Thursday, BNP mayoral candidate Dr. Shahadat Hossain demanded polls defer for two days and deployment of troops in each booth for a fair vote.

Regarding the deployment of the army in the elections, Rafiqul Islam said the army was not deployed in the local government elections. This time we will not deploy also. But the army will be present to provide technical support.

Stating that it is not possible to postpone elections for various reasons including HSC exams, Rafiqul Islam said that the Commission is considering whether elections can be done without announcing a government holiday like other countries.

He said that the option we had was to select the polls-time during the rainy season. We cannot even imagine arranging polls during the rainy season in Chattogram City. Because of our experience, many roads are submerged under water during the rainy season and that why we cannot even think.

According to the schedule, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) polls will be held on March 20.
