A suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight with police in capital's Gulistan area near ‘Mahanagar Natyamancha’ early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Kamal, 35, hailing from Cumilla. There are 14 drug cases with Ramna and Paltan Police Stations against him.

Md. Mahmudul Haque, Officer-In-Charge of Paltan Police Station, said that acting on information that drugs and arms were trading at Gulistan near Mahanagar Natyamancha, a team of police conducted a drive there.

Sensing presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Kamal. The law enforcers also recovered a pistol, three round bullets and drugs.
