Drug trader killed in Teknaf gunfight

A suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight with police at Marine Drive Road in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on early Thursday. Three policemen were also injured in the incident. 

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hanif, son of Kashem Ali of Natmora area under Hnila UP. The injured policemen are - constable Abdul Shukkur, Jewel Barua and Mangthin Pro. 

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said Hanif was arrested on Wednesday morning. Later, police along with him conducted a drive in the area to recover firearms and Yaba. 

As soon as the police reached the area, criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

At one stage of the gunfight, Hanif was caught in the line of fire and was fatally wounded.

Later, he was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
