Body of Rabiul Islam, killed in a gunfight in Joypurhat
A drug dealer was killed in a gunfight with RAB at Ratanpur Switch Gate area of Dharanji UP in Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat on Wednesday morning. Huge quantities of drugs and weapons were recovered from the spot.
The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam, son of Abdul Jalil of Uttar Gopalpur village in Bagjana UP and accused of 19 cases in different police stations including kidnapping and drugs. His younger brother Rentu was also killed in a gunfight with the RAB two years ago.
On a tip-off that a group of drug smugglers entry through the border, RAB lurked in the Ratanpur Switch Gate area, said ASP Mohaimenur Rashid, company commander of RAB-5 Joypurhat camp. “Later, when the RAB members tried to arrest them, the smugglers opened fire. When the RAB members countered back, the notorious drug trader Rabiul was shot on the spot.”
Two RAB members were injured at the time. The injured drug trader was taken to Panchbibi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, he added.
One shooter gun, two foreign pistols, two magazines, six rounds of ammunition, 502 phensidyl and 1,200 yabas were recovered from the spot, ASP Mohaimenur Rashid also said.
Panchbibi Police Station OC Munsur Rahman said there were 18/19 drug cases against drug dealer Rabiul. His body has been brought to the police station.
