Drug export exceeds billion dollars soon

Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Advisor Salman F Rahman said Bangladesh is exporting medicines abroad after meeting local needs. Demand for Bangladeshi medicines in the world market is increasing day by day due to quality. We will surpass billions of dollars in drug export revenue this year.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 12th Asia Pharma Expo at the International Convention City Basundhara (ICCB) on Friday morning.

He said that the use of new technology in the pharmaceutical industry is very important. Many companies come to the expo with new technology, in which the native companies are getting acquainted with the new technology. The first Pharma Expo was launched in 2003. At this time, the pharmaceutical industry of the country is far ahead. If such an expo is being held regularly, the industry will go further.

Speaking as the president, Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceuticals Industry President Nazmul Hasan Papan said that Bangladesh pharmaceutical industry is improving day by day. At present, Bangladesh is exporting medicines to 140 countries. The government has declared that the industry is a priority industry. We are delighted to host the largest expo in the country. With this expo, the industry will move forward.

He said that 500 companies from 18 countries have participated in the expo. But unfortunately, many companies from China did not participate due to the Coronavirus.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director-General of the Department of Drugs Major General Md. Mahbubur Rahman said, “Our medicine is world-class. Production of medicines is ensured by quality assurance. As a result, Bangladesh is exporting medicines to different countries of Australia and Europe.”

The three-day international exhibition will conclude next Sunday. The expo will run from 10 am to 8 pm daily.
