Dreams over watermelon cultivation

A farmer named Abdur Rahman of Bethuli village of Jhenaidah’s Kaliganj upazila has planted vegetables in about 20 bighas while Blackberry variety summer watermelon cultivated in 90 decimal of the land in his village. If the price is right, profit will be more than the idea, Abdur Rahman hopes.
Farmer Abdur Rahman said, besides my two and a half bighas of land, I have cultivated various vegetables including bitter gourd, brinjal, lady's finger, plantain, Indian spinach, and watermelon in about 20 bighas of land taking lease from villagers. I have been cultivating various types of vegetables in the field for almost 25 years.
He said, “I have to face losses due to low prices of vegetables and natural disasters for the last two years. But this year, watermelon in the field is making some benefits of dreams covering all the losses.”
He said, so far about 80 thousand taka has been spent. In the next 20 days, we can sell watermelons from the fields. If the price is good, then at least Tk 3 lakh will be surplus after all other expenses.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Jahidul Karim said, under the National Agrochemical Technology Program (NATP-2) Abdur Rahman has planted summer watermelon. Apart from the purchase of materials including net, bamboo, on behalf of the agricultural office, technical assistance has been provided for him.
