A court has placed JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, who was arrested in a case filed over COVID-19 test scam, on a three-day remand.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahinur Rahman passed the order on Monday morning when police produced the physician before the court with four-day remand prayer.
Dr Sabrina, also a cardiac surgeon at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), was arrested on Sunday afternoon over her suspected involvement in the scam.
She was initially summoned to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner (DC)'s office and later shown arrested in the case after a brief interrogation.
Soon after her arrest, the Health Ministry suspended the physician from the NICVD. Besides, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has frozen bank accounts of her and her husband Ariful Chowdhury.
Earlier on June 23, police arrested three officials of JKG Health Care, including the organization's chief executive officer (CEO) Ariful Chowdhury, for giving fake COVID-19 test reports to people who had provided samples at the health facility. Following the day, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) cancelled all approvals it had given to JKG Health Care regarding the collection of COVID-19 samples.
