Ganoforum, led by Dr. Kamal Hossain, has been divided into two groups – after a long 27 years of establishment.

Three leaders, including Ganoforum’s former general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu, led the party’s split group. They have also announced the party’s central council on December 26.

The council was announced at an extended meeting of the Montu-led Ganoforum at the National Press Club in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

Asked whether there will be Ganoforum’s another party through this meeting, Mostafa Mohsin Montu said, “The decision on the new party would be taken with the opinion of the delegates present at the council on December 26.”

When asked Dr. Kamal Hossain’s position on their decision, Montu said, “We still believe Dr. Kamal Hossain will join us and avoid controversial people.”

If he does not come, we will decide on his “expulsion” by the opinion of the councilors and delegates at the council, he added.

When asked if they are leaving Oikya Front as Ganoforum is in the BNP-led Oikya Front, Montu said, “We have not yet made any decision about the Oikya Front. We have a council preparation committee meeting ahead. The decision will be taken there.”

Replying to a query on the participation of Jamaat-e-Islami in the 11th parliamentary elections in alliance with the Oikya Front and the party accused of ‘Crimes against Humanity’ in the alliance, Montu said, “There was no Jamaat in the Oikya Front and I told Kamal Hossain that I would participate in the 11th parliamentary elections.”

But since he was the party president, I took part in the election under his direction as a general secretary, he also said.

Asked how many district representatives of Ganoforum were present in today’s extended meeting, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, former executive president of the party, said, “We have 283 representatives from 52 districts of Ganoforum with us.”

A 201-member committee had been formed by convening former general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu to make the national council a success, said Abu Sayeed, former executive president of Ganoforum.

Ganoforum’s former presidium member Jaglul Haider Afrik, organizing secretary Latiful Bari Hamim, and others were present in the meeting.

Earlier, in a press release on September 22, the current convening committee president of the Ganoforum Dr. Kamal Hossain and general secretary Reza Kibria said the Ganoforum had nothing to do with the extended meeting on September 26. Accordingly, none of them were present at today’s extended meeting.
