The Trump chapter in the United States history has ended at the White House, now Biden’s term has begun. Joe Biden has been sworn in as the 46th U.S. President.
Dr. Jill Biden, the wife of Joe Biden, is now the First Lady of the United States. A community college educator, and bestselling author, Dr. Jill also served as Second Lady of the United States from 2009–2017.
Early life and career
Born on 3 June 1951 in Hammonton, New Jersey, Jill Tracy Jacobs Biden graduated from Upper Moreland High School in 1969, then graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1975.
She began teaching English at St. Mark’s High School in Wilmington in 1976. She then became a reading specialist at Claymont High School. At that time, she was also pursuing a Master of Education from West Chester University. She completed her first master’s degree in 1981.
Jill Biden met then-Senator Joe Biden in 1975. They tied the knot at the United Nations Chapel in New York City in 1977 and became the mother of two sons - Beau and Hunter. Their daughter, Ashley, was born in 1981.
Dr. Biden taught English at Rockford Center psychiatric hospital while also pursuing a Master of Arts in English from Villanova University. She accepted a job at Delaware Technical Community College in 1993. She received a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in educational leadership from the University of Delaware in 2007.
When Joe Biden became Vice President and moved to Washington DC, Mrs. Biden continued her career at Northern Virginia Community College.
Second lady in Obama’s administration
As a second lady, Jill Tracy Jacobs Biden focused on advocating for community colleges, military families, and the education of women and girls around the world.
She played a critical role in the community colleges in recovering the nation’s economy. She hosted the first-ever White House Summit on Community Colleges with President Obama. She also became the head of the College Promise National Advisory Board, leading the effort to make community colleges free for hard-working students.
As the daughter of a Navy Signalman, Dr. Biden has been an advocate for military families. As Second Lady, she launched Joining Forces with First Lady Michelle Obama, an initiative to support service members, veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors.
As an author, she released a children’s book ‘Don’t Forget, God Bless Our Troops’ in 2012.
Life after the Obama administration
Following the Obama administration, the then-former vice president Joe Biden and Jill Biden launched the Biden Foundation and the Biden Cancer Initiative.
