Dr Arif, the top young scientists in Japan

Dr Md Arif Hossain was awarded Japan’s best young scientist this year. Japan’s Society for Inherited Metabolic Disorders awarded him for discovering the Mechanism and Treatment of Lysosomal Diseases. The organization awards the best Japanese young scientists every year.

The award was presented at the 61st Annual Conference of the Society for Inherited Metabolic Disorders on Thursday. The three-day conference, chaired by Tsutomu Takahashi, was held at the Akita Castle Hotel in the country. 

Born in Kashiani, Gopalganj, Dr Md Arif Hossain is the first non-Japanese to be selected for this prestigious award in 61 years history. He is currently working as a senior researcher at a Japanese research institute.

Dr Arif completed SSC from a village school. He then passed HSC from Mirpur Bangla College in Dhaka and admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. From there he graduated MBBS in the Department of Children. 

After receiving the award, Dr. Arif Hossain said, “I am very happy. This is an unforgettable event for me and for Bangladesh.”
