Jahidul Islam, the owner of Akia Diagnostic Center at Badalgachhi upazilla in Naogaon, treats the patients from morning to evening as an ‘experienced doctor’ when he has the certificate of a village doctor only! Even he works as an OT boy at a clinic in Joypurhat!

It is known through investigation that the owner of Akia Diagnostic Center at Paharpur union of Badalgachhi upazilla, Jahidul Islam passes SSC in 1998 and HSC in 2000 from the Humanities group. Then he claims that he has taken an “MBBS degree from Kolkata”. Now he himself tests ECG, Ultrasonography and X-ray regularly. He signs both the prescriptions and the reports.

Jahidul Islam, son of Subid Ali at Uttar Rampur village in Badalgachhi upazilla of Naogaon district, works as an MLSS rank OT boy at Rowson Clinic and Diagnostic Center in Sadar upazilla of Joypurhat district. Here he works at night.

Akia Diagnostic Center is located near the Paharpur union. When asked about the allegations, he replied, “I work as an OT boy at a diagnostic center in Joypurhat at night. But I never use the designation of doctor before the name.”

When asked about his HSC courses, Jahidul Islam said that he did not remember except Bengali and English. Although he claims that he has taken the MBBS degree from the Indian Council of Alternative Medicine Kolkata near Sealdah in India, however, he did not say the full meaning of MBBS.

Whether is it possible to study MBBS or medical science for a Humanities student, he replied, “It was my mistake.”

Meanwhile, Jahidul Islam candidly acknowledges that there are no appointed doctors or pathologists in his hospital. They check the reports in on-call or online. When asked how do they sign or prescribe, he replied, “They keep their signature before.”

On the other hand, he acknowledges checking the reports of specialist doctors, signing the USG, X-ray and Ultrasonography reports. “All diagnostic centers of the upazilla are running by the same method,” he added.

He said that while renewing the registration of the diagnostic center, they applied with the required information as per the rules of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Asked how he did the job with false information, he said, “There are special measures in this case.”

When asked Naogaon Civil Surgeon Dr. ABM Abu Hanif, he said, “Badalgachhi Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Kanis Farhana has been directed to submit an investigation report. Legal action will be taken subject to receipt of the investigation report.”
