Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni has hinted free internet services only for the students to continue the online education activities during the coronavirus period.
“Many educational institutions are continuing their online education activities, however, many students can't afford the internet cost to participate in online learning activities. Discussions are underway with mobile operators on whether to provide free internet or low-cost internet packages only for students,” she said while speaking as the chief guest at a webinar titled ‘Our Duties on Education in the Current Global Crisis’ organized by the Awami League’s subcommittee on education and human resources on Monday.
Educational institutions have been closed for a long time due to the global epidemic, as a result, we are emphasizing on online education activities, said Education Minister, hoping that mobile operators would take a positive view on free internet for students.
“Every crisis opens the door to new possibilities for us. To convert our population into human resources according to the needs of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we have to become proficient in information and technology. So, we might have to go digital in a few days. Coronavirus has put us ahead in this regard,” she said.
“We are now conducting various meetings and daily activities in the office-court, including online education activities,” Dr. Dipu Moni said, adding that there are some limitations, these will remain for the time being.
We will overcome that limitation and become accustomed to this new reality in a short time. Online education activities will continue with normal education activities in the coronavirus-post period, she added.
