Dhaka-Jalpaiguri passenger train to launch Mar 26

A new passenger train is being launched from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal of India to Dhaka on March 26 on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence.
A meeting of railway officials of Bangladesh and India was held on Wednesday. After the meeting, Rabindra Kumar Verma, DRM (Divisional Railway Manager) of Katihar Division of Indian Railways, gave this information.
He said the train service would be resumed from New Jalpaiguri or NJP in West Bengal to Dhaka Cantonment in view of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
However, the name of the train service has not been decided yet, said DRM Rabindra Kumar Verma.
This will be the third railway service between Bangladesh and West Bengal. Earlier, the second railway service ‘Bandhan Express’ was launched between Kolkata and Khulna in Bangladesh on November 9, 2017, and the first passenger train ‘Maitri Express’ was launched on April 14, 2008, on the day of Bangla Noboborsho (Bengali New Year).
Rabindra Kumar Verma added that the new service will run between New Jalpaiguri and Dhaka two days a week. It will leave New Jalpaiguri at 2:00 pm on Monday and Thursday and will leave Dhaka on Tuesday and Friday at 1:00 am. The journey will take 9 hours. AC fare will be Tk 2000, Chair Coach fare will be Tk 1500 and Sleeper Class fare will be around Tk 1200.
It is to be mentioned that the distance from New Jalpaiguri to Dhaka is 530 km. Of this, 446 km is located in Bangladesh and 84 km in the Indian part. There are 15 stations in both countries on this long route, however, the train will not stop at any station.
