The Election Commission has postponed the election of Dewanganj Municipality of Jamalpur to be held in the fifth phase. 

This was informed in a letter signed by Atiyar Rahman, Deputy Secretary of Election Management-2 Branch on Friday.

It has been said that the Election Commission has decided to postpone the general election of Dewanganj municipality of Jamalpur district scheduled for February 28 until further orders.

Dewanganj UNO and Returning Officer AKM Abdullah Bin Rashid confirmed the development.

In Dewanganj municipality election, 4 men are contesting for the post of mayor and 40 men and 18 women are contesting for the post of councilor in 9 wards.

The four candidates for the mayoral post are Awami League nominated Mrs. Farin Hossain Didar, rebel candidate Upazila Awami League member, and former mayor Md. Shah Newaz Shahenshah, former joint convener of Upazila Chhatra League Sheikh Mohammad Nurnabi and BNP nominee Sadek Akter Newaji.
