Devastating fire at Mirpur slum

16 unites fire brigades fighting to control

A fire broke out in a slum in Rupnagar in the capital, Mirpur. At first, 11 units of fire brigades started the effort to control the fire, now more, four fire units are fighting to douse the fire although the ferocity is increasing instead.

The fire broke out around 9:45 am on Wednesday morning.

Fire and Civil Defense Duty Officer Russell Shikder told Daily Bangladesh that the fire broke out in the slum of 'Ta' block of Rupnagar in Mirpur. The fire has not yet been brought under control. The severity of the fire is so high that our staff is frigid.

No initial casualties or causes were reported yet.

Earlier, on August 16 last year, a fire broke out in a slum area in the Chalantika Mora area under the Rupnagar police station. In this incident, almost all of the 2000 slum houses were burned.
