Dengue claims 2 more lives, 219 hospitalised

For the third straight day, two more people died of the dengue virus, raising the death toll to 65.

At the same time, 219 patients were hospitalised with dengue in the previous 24 hours till 8:00 am today, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). With the new cases, the total caseload stood at 17,790.

Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room of the Directorate of Health said this in a regular online bulletin on Tuesday.

Of the new dengue patients, Dahaka alone saw 167 people being admitted to hospitals in 24 hours. The rest 52 are from outside Dhaka. 

Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1,172 are still undergoing treatment at different hospitals. Of them, 954 are taking treatment at 45 hospitals in Dhaka, and 218 outside the capital, the DGHS data said.

At least, 7,698 dengue patients were hospitalised in August, 2,286 in July, 272 in June and 43 in May.
