Dakatia River has flowed in Nangalkot-Chauddagram Upazila of Cumilla. For a long time, there has not been any development due to the negligence of public administration and authorities. So, a bamboo bridge has been built with the locals’ initiatives.

However, due to shaky shawl, about 50,000 people of the 15 villages have crossed the bridge with risk. There is a demand for building a risk-free bridge.

Locals including primary school and madrasah students are crossing the bamboo bridge every day. Besides, the vegetable traders from the area are being taken raw materials to the market. But the bridge has been stacked in. People are shivering during the crossing.

Local Shafiqur Rahman said, “There are a mosque and a madrasa in the Chouddagram part of the river. Thousands of people use this bamboo bridge every day. The condition of the bridge is shaky. Students of the primary school who do not know swimming are also crossing the bridge with risk. Even there were many accidents occurred during the crossing. The locals made about 300 meters of the bamboo bridge with 18 pillars to avoid accidents. However, a bridge is necessary for its permanent solution.”

Four-year-old Faria Akhter said, “One time my legs were wiggle while crossing the bridge and fell into the river. And due to this, I couldn't go to school for one week. A permanent bridge is needed over here, rather than a bamboo bridge. We humbly request to the government to build a permanent bridge.”

The chairman of the Dhalua UP Nazmul Hasan Bhuiyan Bachir said that instead of a bamboo bridge on the Dakatia River, the officials will be informed to build a permanent bridge.

Nangalkot Upazila Engineer Jabed Hossain said, “We do not have any information about the bamboo bridge. Necessary measures will be taken after the investigation.”
