The death toll from India's Delhi violence has risen to 34. Besides, over 200 people have been injured in the clashes, reported local media.

More arson and unrest have been reported in Delhi's Bhajanpura, Maujpur and Karawal Nagar areas late on Wednesday, hours after National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited violence-affected areas.

After four straight days of clashes over the citizenship law, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday made his first public statement, calling for "peace and brotherhood".

"Peace and harmony are central to our ethos. I appeal to my sisters and brothers of Delhi to maintain peace and brotherhood at all times. It is important that there is calm and normalcy is restored at the earliest," Modi wrote on Twitter.
