A journalist filed a defamation suit against actress Shomi Kaiser for Tk 100 crore.
On Tuesday, editor of Students Journal BD Miya Md Nujhatul Hasan filed the suit in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur.
The court will give the order after accepting the plaintiff’s statement. Due to addressing reporters as ‘thief’, the lawsuit has been filed, said Miya Md Nujhatul Hasan.
On April 24, e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (ECAB) president Shomi Kaiser’s two phones were stolen in front of hundreds of people at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury auditorium of the Press Club.
During this, she was speaking at the inauguration of e-commerce-based tourism site ‘Bindu365’. At the end of the speech, she suddenly told that she could not find her phones.
When the matter came to light, the security personnel of Shomi Kaiser wanted to search the bodies of reporters. When some reporters wanted to get out, the security personnel called them 'thief'. The newsmen were offended by this and expressed anger at the venue.
Later, on the video footage of the journalists’ cameras, it was seen that one of the workers of the program took Shomi Kaiser’s phones. After watching the video footage, she expressed ‘regret’ to reporters.
