Decision taken to coordinate three wage grades

The government has decided to coordinate the three wage grade at reasonable rates for the workers.

The decision has been taken after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered to coordinate the wage structure for the garment workers.

According to the ministry of labor and employment, it has been decided to coordinate the wages of Grade 3, 4 and 5 in the interest of the workers according to the consensus of the workers. As a result, with the adjustment of wages, the workers’ wage will be increased at reasonable rates in each grade.

State Minister for Ministry of Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian announced the wage for workers in the conference room of Labor and Employment Ministry on Sunday.

Earlier, in the afternoon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the coordination of wage grade 3, 4 and 5 with the addition of wage grade 1, 2.

The garment workers have been protesting in different parts of the country, including the capital, for the last several days demanding payment of the promised wage and change of wage structure.

This leads to clashes, counter clashes, chaos occurred between police and workers. Apart from this, the movement on road leads to bus vandalism, arson and labor injuries with the road blockade.

Earlier, the government had decided to finalize the minimum wage of Tk 8,000 in the garment sector by talking to the owners-workers party. However, the wage was supposed to implement from January 2019. And workers protest against as the wage structure didn’t effective.
