The death toll due to a building collapse in India's commercial capital Mumbai climbed to 39 on Wednesday. Many more are still trapped inside the debris. So the death toll is expected to rise.

The accident took place early hours of Monday in Bhiwandi area of ​​the city, reports Times of India.

According to the report, the accident took place at around 4.15 am local time. The country's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire brigade then arrived and launched a rescue operation.

At least 39 people killed in the building collapse, 25 people have been rescued alive so far. The National Disaster Response Force, the fire brigade, the police, and the Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell are conducting rescue operations.

Meanwhile, several areas in Maharashtra are at risk of floods due to heavy rains. As a result, the rescue operation was hampered by heavy rains.
