AC blast in N’ganj mosque: death toll hits 24
The death toll from the Air Conditioner (AC) blast in the Talla central mosque in the Fatula in Narayanganj, has risen to 24 including the latest one named Mohammad Ali Master, 55, who died around 11 am on Sunday.; authorities at the Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute confirmed the information.
Earlier on Saturday night, Imam and Khatib of the mosque, Maulana Abdul Malek has died while undergoing treatment.
The condition of the rest who received burn injuries is also said to be critical.
The deceased are;- Imam of the mosque Abdul Malek, 60, Muazzin Delwar Hossain, 48, and his son Junaid, 17, two siblings Jobayer,18 and Sabbir, 21, Quddus Bapary, 72, of Munshiganj, Mostafa Kamal, 34, of Chandpur, garment worker Rashed 30, of Patuakhali, Humayun Kabir 72, of Narayanganj, Jamal Abedin, 40, of Rangabali of Patuakhali, garment worker Ibrahim Biswas, 43, Narayanganj college student Md. Rifat, 18, Mainuuddin, 12, of Chandpur, Joynal, 36, of Fatullah, Garment worker Nayan, 27, of Lalmonirhat, Nizam, 34, Russell, 34, of Narayanganj, Kanchan Hawlader, 50, of Khulna, Childe Jubayer, 7, Bahar Uddin, 55, Nadeem, 45, Shamim, 45, Julhas and Mohammad Ali Master, 55. The deceased were residents of Talla area.
Some 37 people suffered burn injuries as all the air conditioners of the mosque exploded during Esha prayers in Fatullah, Narayanganj on Friday night.
Locals said the incident took place around 8:45 pm at Baitus Salam Mosque when the devotees had just finished their prayers. An air conditioner went off and sparked a fire inside the mosque. Later, the remaining six ACs exploded there, leaving the 37 devotees injured. So far 23 people died from the blast.
