In Nigeria, the highest punishment for the crime of blasphemy has been declared a death sentence. Officials in the northern Zamfara state of the country have decided that those who defy the Holy Quran will be punished with the highest punishment.

The governor of Zamfara state, Balu Muhammad Metawal, said that the Quran is the holy book of the Muslim Ummah. In order to protect the dignity of the Quran, the death penalty bill will be implemented as a punishment for contempt.

The decision was taken by the advice of a committee of 24 members of the state. A few days ago, in the state of Zamfara, Governor Muhammad Metawal said that they were committed to punishing those found guilty of contempt of the Quran.

It should be noted that the total population of Nigeria is about 19 corer. Almost half of Nigeria's population is Muslim. And the majority of these Muslims live in the northern provinces of the country. The country has 10 percent followers of other religions and the remaining 40 percent are people of Christianity.
