Death of couple: Bus driver jailed

A bus driver of Ajmeri Glory Paribahan who caused the death of a couple after driving dangerously on the road at the airport police station in the capital has been jailed for three years.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order after hearing on Friday.
Earlier, after a one-day remand, bus driver Tasikul Islam was taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court. After that, in the interest of proper investigation of the case, the investigating officer of the case, Airport Police Station SI Emran Hossain requested to keep him in jail. At that time, the lawyer of the accused applied for bail. After hearing both the parties, the court rejected the bail application and ordered him to send jail.
Meanwhile, on January 20, bus driver Tasikul Islam was produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court with five days remand prayers by the investigation officer Airport Police Station SI Emran Hossain. Advocates Muraduzzaman and Monim Hossain applied for bail on behalf of the accused. At that time, the state party opposed bail. After hearing both sides, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury dismissed the bail and ordered remand.
The deceased have been identified as Akash Iqbal, 33, and Maya Hazarika Mitu, 25. On the same day after the incident, Mitu's father Manik Mia filed a case with the Airport Police Station. On the night of the incident, the CID raided the Mouchak area of Gazipur and arrested Tasikul.
Meanwhile, the court has directed to file a report by March 15 after investigating the case.
