Dancer, choreographer and former president of the Television Dancers Association Hasan Imam has died on Friday. He was 67.

He breathed his last around 4:30 pm at his Moghbazar residence in the capital. His sister Shyamoli has confirmed the information.

Hasan Imam's sister died of coronavirus three days ago. The dancer was taken home when he fell on the stairs of the mosque while attending his sister's Milad on Friday. He later died before the ambulance arrived. However, it has not yet known whether he was infected with the coronavirus.

Family members, however, claimed that he died of a heart attack. Hasan Imam has been suffering from diabetes for the last five years.

Meanwhile, Anisul Islam Hiru, general secretary of the Television Dancers' Association, said that Hasan Imam was buried at Banani graveyard in the capital before collecting samples.

Born in Bikrampur, Hasan Imam spent his childhood and boyhood in Magbazar. After independence, he completed his studies in dancing from the Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts and developed his career as a professional dancer.

The popular dancer of the '80s and '90s had been acclaimed for his work on the dance-drama 'Nakshi Kanthar Math' of Palli Kabi Jasimuddin. He married another dancer Shamim Ara Nipa. Hasan Imam gradually withdrew himself from dance after being separated with Nipa in the late '90s. Then he never married again.
