The court on Sunday has rejected the bail plea of National Film Award-winning dancer and choreographer Evan Shahriar Sohag, who was arrested in connection with the case involving trafficking women in Dubai.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter rejected the bail plea after hearing.
Advocate Khan Mahmudul Hasan was heard for Evan’s bail. On the other hand, SI Swapan Kumar, general registration officer of Lalbagh police station, opposed bail on behalf of the state.
After hearing both the sides, the court rejected Evan’s bail petition.
The CID arrested Evan from Niketan in the capital on Thursday night. He was produced before the court on Saturday and asked to be kept in jail by CID deputy inspector (SI) Md. Kamruzzaman, who is also the investigating officer of the case.
His bail was appealed for by the defendant. As there were no case documents, the court set a date for Evan’s bail hearing on Sunday and ordered him to be sent to jail.
