Daily COVID deaths rise, infections fall in country

13 more COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 8,298 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 5,41,434 as 396 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.
Earlier on Saturday, 446 COVID-19 patients were detected while 11 deaths related to the disease were reported.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) came up with the information in a press release on Tuesday (February 16, 2021).
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, 262,984 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus around the world while 6,638 died from the pandemic in the last 24 hours. The United States has registered the highest number of deaths from the pandemic and infections during the period.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 219 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of this afternoon, a total of 109,729,516 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 2,420,361 while 84,289,075 patients have recovered, according to Worldometers data.
