Daily COVID cases, deaths fall in country

As many as 17 people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 7687 in the country. Earlier, 20 deaths from the disease were registered yesterday.
Besides, 978 new cases were reported during the time. With this, the tally of infections has surged to 5,18,898 in the country. On the other hand, 991 people were diagnosed with the virus yesterday.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) came up with the information in a press release issued on Wednesday (January 6, 2021).
A total of 15544 samples were tested at 180 authorized laboratories across the country in 24 hours. Besides, 1021 people were recovered during the period, the press release added.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, 684,607 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus around the world while 13,872 died from the pandemic in the last 24 hours. The United States has registered the highest number of deaths from the pandemic and infections during the period.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 218 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of this afternoon, a total of 86,905,850 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 1,877,504 while 61,626,909 patients have recovered, according to Worldometers data.
