The general students have blockaded the capital’s Shahbagh intersection on Monday around 12:00 pm demanding punishment for the perpetrators over the rape incident of a Dhaka University’s (DU) 2nd-year student.

Earlier, a protest march started from the university’s TSC —  ended at the Shahbagh intersection. Later, traffic halted on several adjoining roads when they blocked the road.

It is learned that the activists of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council and various left organizations of Dhaka University participated in the protest. A large number of general students are present as well.

During this, the students demanded maximum punishment for rapists involved in the rape of DU student — they shouted, “Dharshakder Thikana Bangladeshe Hobe Na” (Address of rapists, will not be in Bangladesh).

There is an anger atmosphere among the Dhaka University student over the rape incident. At night, there was a massive protest on the university campus demanding punishment for the culprits. Various protest programs have been announced today.

The police are still unable to identify the places where the DU student raped and even could not arrest anyone involved in the incident. The girl is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
