The body of a student of Dhaka University (DU) has been recovered from a building of Azimpur Government Residential Quarters in the capital.

The deceased was identified as Israt Jahan Tushti, 22, a second-year student of the English Department at Dhaka University.

The reason behind her death could not be known yet.

It has been reported that firefighters salvaged her body after breaking the door of the bathroom on the ground floor of the eight-storey building No. 18/2 of Plassey Government Quarters at about 7:30 am.

Station officer of Palashi Fire Station Saiful Islam said, “Israt Jahan used to live in that building. We got a phone call in the National Emergency Service 999 this morning. The bathroom’s door was found closed and the fire service personnel broke the door open and took her out.”

“Israt and her fellow mates used to live renting a sublet ... Last night Israt went to bathroom to take a shower after getting wet by rain. But she did not come out of the bathroom all night. Later she was rescued from that bathroom,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalbagh Police Station KM Ashraf Uddin said.

The reason behind her death could not be known yet.

“We are waiting for medical report. The exact cause behind her death will be known after receiving the autopsy report,” the OC added.
