DU postpones evening MBA entry test amid criticism

The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have postponed the admission tests for evening MBA courses amid criticism as the university’s Faculty of Business Studies (FBS) made arrangements for the tests during the pandemic keeping the authorities in dark.

When all academic activities across the country, except online classes, have remained suspended due to the pandemic, business faculty itself decided to hold the test today from 11am to 12pm at Azimpur Government Girls School and College.

However, before 34 minutes beginning of the test, the faculty suddenly declared the postponement of the test resulting in the sufferings of 1,200 students, who were on their way to appear the exam.

“We postponed the examination as misinterpretation prevailed among the top officials of the university and the next date will be announced later. We were conducting the test following all the directives of the university,” said Dr. Muhammad Abdul Moyeen, dean of the faculty.

Neither the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university Dr Akhtaruzzaman nor the Pro-VCs of the university was informed about the test before the publication of news stories on several media houses in this regard, the top officials said.

“I talked to the faculty dean this morning after learning from the journalists about the matter and asked the authority to postpone the test,” said DU VC Akhtaruzzaman.

There are restrictions to hold such admission tests before the formulation of proper principles, he added.

“Last night I came to know about the test from journalists as the business faculty were conducting the test even without informing the university administration,” said DU Pro-VC (Academic) Dr. Mohammad Samad.
