The Dhaka University (DU) admission test is deferring due to the second wave of coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak and the ongoing lockdown. However, the university authorities will hold an emergency meeting today to decide when the exam will be held.
Some university teachers involved in the DU admission test told Daily Bangladesh that it was not possible to take the first-year undergraduate (honors) exam of the 2020-21 academic year due to the Covid-19 situation. The Ministry of Education has also instructed to close the educational institutions.
The first-year undergraduate admission test of DU was scheduled to start from May 21 through the ‘Ka’ unit of the Faculty of Science and to end on June 5 through theoretical and drawing examinations of the ‘Chha’ unit of the Faculty of Fine Arts.
Deans of the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Business Education and Faculty of Fine Arts met the Vice-Chancellor of the University a few days ago. There is a discussion about the situation arising due to Covid-19.
The DU VC was informed at the meeting that it was “not possible” for the Deans to prepare for the examination. The VC agreed with the decisions of the Deans.
On condition of anonymity, a dean of DU said it is not possible to take the test if the COVID situation is not normal. Besides, several universities have announced exam dates, which will be considered. “However, we will be thinking of completing the test by August,” he added.
