DSCC to provide one-month meal for 50,000 homeless

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon has announced that one-month meals will be arranged for 50,000 families of poor, low-income and homeless people over coronavirus situation of the country. The food distribution program will be launched from Saturday.
He made the announcement while visiting spraying antibacterial activities at Gulshan area in the capital. He distributed cash to hundreds of poor rickshaw pullers and low-income people at the time.
Earlier in the afternoon, city corporation’s chief executive officer Shah Md. Emdadul Haque handed over cash to 200 homeless people living at Azimpur, Dhanmondi, Kathalbagan, Baitul Mokarram Masjid area on behalf of Mayor Sayeed Khokon.
Sayeed Khokon said that spraying disinfectants program in South City Corporation area has started long ago. “I am here today to inspect that work.”
“I would urge the city dwellers not to leave their homes,” he also said. “I would also like to call on all the rich people in the country to stand beside the people who are suffering in this time of crisis.”
The mayor added that if a citizen calls in our hotline number and told that “they are in food crisis”, then we will deliver food to their home. That’s why a team has been formed with elected councilors and regional executives. They have already started working.
“I am always with the city dwellers and will stay, whether I am in tenure or not,” also said Sayeed Khokon. “You will always find me next to you.”
“All the committees, including our seven magistrates, are working to ensure the home quarantine,” the mayor said adding that they are collecting information daily.
