A ten-day combing operation is set to begin in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area from next Monday for special mosquito extermination and cleaning activities.

The decision was taken at an emergency online meeting chaired by DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam on Thursday. Mayor Atiqul Islam confirmed the matter.

The number of dengue patients in the capital has recently increased, the meeting said. In addition to the combing operation, mobile courts will also be conducted.

During the meeting, Mayor Atiqul Islam directed to conduct intensive mosquito eradication activities in the vicinity of the hospitals located in the DNCC area where there are dengue patients. He also said to keep an eye on the dengue patient to prevent the transmission by Aedes mosquito.

The mayor also directed to intensify mosquito eradication activities in the vicinity of their homes by collecting the addresses of dengue patients staying in the hospital.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said the city dwellers should be protected from mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases at any cost. That is why DNCC imported fourth-generation pesticides. In the meantime, some modern equipment has been brought and more are being brought.

The mayor also said that the DNCC's urban health centers and maternity hospitals have enough kits for free dengue testing.

The meeting informed that according to the Health Directorate, there are 12 dengue patients in the DNCC area at the moment. These dengue patients have been treated at five private hospitals in the DNCC area. The addresses of these 12 patients have already been collected. The application of mosquito repellent around their homes will be intensified as per the instructions of the mayor.
