Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has requested the Election Commission to close the Dhaka International Trade Fair on January 29 and 30 on the occasion of the Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections.

According to the letter, the trade fair needs to be closed for the upcoming two days-January 29 and 30 to facilitate the deployment of police and Ansar in order to maintain law and order during the elections.

The Returning Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation was requested to take necessary steps in this regard.

The DMP sent the letter to the Returning Officer of the Dhaka North City Corporation election on Thursday. Krishnapada Roy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Ops), sent the letter on behalf of the DMP Commissioner. Abul Kasem, DNC's returning officer, confirmed the letter.
According to sources, the DMP letter stated that 1,205 members of the law enforcers had to be deployed for 24 hours at the Dhaka International Trade Fair.

Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections will be held on January 30. Ensuring smooth, beautiful and safe elections and finishing poll is one of the challenges for the security forces. It is necessary to maintain law and order during elections, appoint separate forces at each center, and deploy a greater number of police forces than usual for striking and mobile duty.

The letter also said that around 25,000 policemen, 1,000 APBN members, and 35,000 Ansar members would be required to be deployed on the Election Day. It will not be possible to deploy a separate force for trade fair by completing the election duty properly. In this situation, the trade fair needs to be closed on January 29 and 30.
