DMCH starts handing over bodies to family

After confirming the identity of deceased bodies of Chawkbazar fire incident, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) authorities handed over the bodies to relatives. 

Professor Sohel Mahmud, chief of the forensic department of DMCH, said that the process of handing over the bodies was started at around 2:00 pm. “Those who are able to identify their bodies are being handed over to their relatives. So far 40 bodies have been handed over.”

Chawkbazar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Pradip Biswas said, “The body was properly handed to the family. The Dhaka Medical Authority is working with the help of police. Dhaka district administration has provided an information center in Dhaka Medical College to provide information about the casualties.”

Senior Assistant Commissioner Imrul Hasan, who was in the information center, said that the district administration has been donating Tk 20,000 for the burial.

Professor Sohel Mahmud said, “The DNA samples of those bodies which cannot be identified, will be handed over to the relatives later. Besides, nine people burnt in the fire were admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College. One of the 60 percent burn patients was kept in the ICU.”
