DIG Mizan shown arrested in bribery case

A Dhaka court has granted the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) application for the arrest of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mizanur Rahman in a case in connection to bribe of a sum Tk 40 lakh.

Dhaka's Senior Special Judge Imrul Kayes gave the order on Sunday. During this time, ACC director Sheikh Mohammad. Fanafilya, the investigation officer of the case appealed to show arrest DIG Mijan arrested in the case.

Earlier on July 16, ACC director Sheikh Md. Fanafila filed a case against DIG Mizanur Rahman and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) director Khandaker Enamul Bachir in Dhaka's CMM court-1. DIG Mizan and Enamul Bachir were suspended from the two companies being accused of bribe transactions.

ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said that DIG Mizan filed the complaint at the beginning of last month to pay Tk 40 lakhs to ACC director Enamul Bachir to get rid of the allegation of acquiring illegal assets. DIG Mizan has supplied some 'fabricated' record to television by duplicating his vocal, claimed suspended ACC director Enamul Bachir.

Following the allegation, on June 12, another director of the ACC Manzoor Morshed was appointed as the investigation officer by removing Enamul Bachir. In order to investigate the allegations of bribe transactions, Fanaafilaya was tasked for probing with a three-member team.

It is to be noted that on May 3, 2018, the ACC Deputy Director Farid Ahmed Patwari interrogated the first DIG Mizan for receiving the illegal assets. Later, Enamul Bachir took charge.

On June 24, a case was filed against DIG Mizan, his wife, brother and nephew alleged misappropriation of assets worth Tk. 3 crore and 28 lakhs.
