Cyclone Yaas: Water vessels operation suspended
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended operations of all types of river vessels on all inner routes ahead of the cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ that may hit Bangladesh tomorrow. The decision will effective until further notice.
BIWTA made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the cyclonic storm Yaas over the east-central Bay and adjoining areas has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. In this situation, the Meteorological Department has asked the seaports of the country to show warning signal number 2.
Besides, river ports in 16 regions of the country including Dhaka and Rajshahi have been asked to show warning signal number 1. It may intensify and move north-northwest and reach the north-west Bay of Bengal in the early hours of Wednesday (May 26).
All the fishing boats and trawlers over the north bay and the deep sea have been advised to take shelter till further notice.
The weather forecast said rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Bogra, Dhaka, Tangail, Jashore, Kushtia, Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barisal, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, Mymensingh, and Sylhet.
