Cyclone Yaas: Shipping Ministry opens hotline

The Ministry of Shipping has launched a hotline to get any information and services related to inland shipping, including cyclone 'Yash'. The hotline number is 16113.

The hotline was launched on Tuesday by the Ministry of Shipping.

Earlier on Tuesday, BIWTA suspended water vessels across the country due to cyclone Yaas.

Meanwhile, the cyclone 'Yaas', which formed in the Bay of Bengal, has intensified and is now in the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. Seaports have been asked to hoist warning signal number 3.

The meteorological department said this in a special notification ahead of cyclone 'Yaas' on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Tuesday, the storm lies NorthWest Bay and adjoining area and was centered at 12:30 pm today about 665 kms southwest of Chattogram port, 525 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 455 kms south-southwest of Mongla port, and 445 kms south-southwest of Payra port. 

The maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the cyclone center is 89 km per hour, which is increasing to 118 km in the form of gusts or gusty winds.

The weather forecast said rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind (80-100 kmph) is likely to occur at a few places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Bogra, Dhaka, Tangail, Jashore, Kushtia, Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barisal, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, Mymensingh, and Sylhet.
