Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said, “We have changed the strategy. We are hopeful that the Culex mosquito will come under control in the next two weeks.”
He made the remarks after inaugurating the Panthakunj box culvert and Panthakunj interim waste transfer center at Panthapath on Wednesday afternoon.
Calling on the people of the capital to be patient, Taposh said, "We have changed our strategy. The activities that we are taking now, all our activities are going on 4hrs, we have increased the activities in the afternoon.”
Asked why the new strategies and pesticides had not been changed before, the DSCC mayor said, “I want to clarify one thing for you. Those of us who are experts can give a lot of great advice when things happen. But we don't get advice on what to do before the incident, what action to take. We were told that since there was an outbreak of dengue, this activity would have to continue until December. But that activity was wrong. We should have taken action against Culex mosquitoes as soon as winter came. Because the water was getting stagnant.
Among others present at the time were Dhaka-4 MP Syed Abu Hossain Babla, DSCC Chief Executive Officer ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Badrul Amin and others.
