Infections soar to 3.5 lakh, 40 deaths in a day

40 more COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 4979 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 3,50,921 as 1705 new cases were confirmed during the period.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) provided the information issuing a press release on Sunday.
According to the release, a total of 13,053 samples were tested at 93 authorized laboratories across the country during the time. Besides, the recovery count rose to 258,717 after another 2152 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 31,259,780 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 965,328 while 22,843,618patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
