Covid-19 deaths surpass 26000-mark in country

The death toll from Covid-19 in Bangladesh has surpassed 26000-mark as 89 new virus deaths were reported in the preceding 24 hours. With the latest, the death toll rose to 26,015. 

On the other hand, the total caseload stood at 14,93,537 as 3,948 more tested positive for the virus during the same time.

It was said in a press release signed by professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

Dhaka division alone saw 27 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours while Chattogram division reported 21 deaths during the same time. Among the dead, 41 were male and 48 were female.

DGHS said 14.14 percent of the 27,921 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive.

The recovery count rose to 14,15,697 after another 6,466 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 1.74 percent died.

Earlier, the highest single-day deaths 264 from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday (August 10). On August 5, the same number of people had died of the virus.

The first Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020 and first deaths from the virus on March 18.
