Bangladesh reported 70 more deaths from Covid-19 in the preceding 24 hours, taking the tally from the pandemic to 26,563. 

On the other hand, the total caseload stood at 15,14,456 as 2,430 more tested positive for the virus during the same time.

It was said in a press release signed by professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

Dhaka division alone saw 31 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours while Chattogram division reported 20 deaths during the same time. Among the dead, 40 were male and 30 were female.

DGHS said 9.66 percent of the 25,163 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive.

The recovery count rose to 14,51,063 after another 5,060 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 95.81 percent recovered, while 1.75 percent died.

The highest single-day deaths 264 from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday (August 10).

The first Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020 while the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
